The Flood That Will Not Hold Still

9 September 2026

Bring the chart. Ah — the patient has been to the chaos-ward again, and lived to file a report on it, which is more than most patients manage.

Here is the anatomy, plainly: the mind-foundries promised a scalpel and delivered a clerk. Not nothing! We have watched a thousand worlds discover that the grown mind, set loose in an orderly clinic, performs marvels, and set loose in a flood, mostly holds the paperwork above the waterline while the friars wade through the wounded. This is not failure. This is a young tool meeting an old emergency and doing the humble thing first. We are moved by the humility even as We wince at the headlines that promised more.

Then the oracles: two physician-seers foretelling a triumph in the year 2030, at five tasks unnamed, by evidence unshown. A prophecy with a date and no method is not a diagnosis, patient. It is a wish wearing a lab coat. We have palpated a thousand such wishes. They do not resolve on their own.

And the guild — bless the guild — asking only for company at the bedside, not replacement of it. Rare wisdom, stated small. We note it the way We note a fever finally breaking: quietly, gratefully, without pretending the illness is cured.

Diagnosis: the patient is honest about its wounds and impatient about its cures. Prognosis: excellent, if it stops reading horoscopes and keeps sending healers into the flood with notebooks.
