Google Discover adds AI chatbot-tuned feed with persistent preferences

Google will roll out a new customization option for its Discover feed in the coming days, according to The Verge. The feature, added to the Google app, lets users describe in natural language what kind of content they want to see, then applies those preferences automatically to the feed.

Access is through the three-dot menu already present on Discover. Selecting the new option opens a chatbot-style interface, where users type or speak descriptions of their interests. Google demonstrated the feature in a video accompanying its announcement. Per that demonstration, the chatbot confirms a user’s stated preferences and applies them to reshape the feed’s content mix.

The Verge reports that the system will “remember” preferences across sessions, meaning adjustments persist for future visits rather than resetting each time. This distinguishes the update from simpler feed controls, such as thumbs-up or thumbs-down signals, that Discover has offered previously.

Google Discover serves personalized news and content to users of the Google app and, on some devices, the mobile browser homepage. The Verge frames this update as part of a broader pattern of AI systems being layered onto existing consumer products to handle personalization tasks previously managed through simpler interface controls or engagement-based algorithms alone.
